question about bearded dragon Empty
PostSubject: question about bearded dragon    question about bearded dragon EmptyMon Jun 04, 2012 3:35 pm

My friends bearded dragon has not defecated in about 3 weeks. She's eating crickets normally but is barely touching her veggies and greens. Temps have not changed. The UV light was replaced recently. My friend has given her two warm baths to stimulate her to defecate but nothing has happened.

Any thoughts? Environment is a 75g tank. Substrate is tile. Her veggies and greens are dusted each time she us offered them.

How long were the baths? I'd let her soak for a good 45 minutes or more.

I agree with Don, give some more soakings. Make sure the water is lukewarm, not warm. I was amazed how cool 80 degree water felt when I got my temp gun out to get it exact.

It also sounds like she may getting too much calcium and vitamins. If the crickets are being given regularly, and are dusted each time, there's no need to dust the greens too.

I don't think it's the problem but I'd advise your friend to switch that regardless. Feeders should be regularly dusted and greens only very occasionally.

I would recommend Oxbow Carnivore Care if the longer soaking doesn't help. While it is also full of vitamins after 2 days of feeding one of my rescues some on top of some worms he had a nice big bowel movement the next day. The exotics vet I go to swears by it. It's also great for B12 deficiencies. Hope everything works out.
