Found a few herps and even a couple'a mammals. Smile
Wanted to share.

Eastern box turtle that my dog discovered (the turtle made its way into the woods).

Some newts or salamanders I caught in the creek. Any IDs?

Finally, my grandfather mowed over a nest of rabbits. The mother moved them (I assume) sometime after. They are all gone but no signs of attack.

Great finds!

As I'm sure you know, the newts are red-spotted newts. The other salamanders are Northern Dusky Salamanders.

The moth looks like a Ceanothus silkmoth, but that is a western species. Is the moth from VA?

If the moth was found in VA, I think is is Hyalophora euryalus.

I live in a heavily wooded country area next to a river and a creek. I have access to the woods and mountains in our area. Any suggestions for finding some snakes? My grandfather sees black snakes often but I'd love to discover something a bit more interesting.
