Reptile newb Empty
PostSubject: Reptile newb   Reptile newb EmptySun Oct 16, 2011 10:01 pm

I am relatively new to reptiles. Got my first 4 weeks ago. 2 bearded dragons, puff and mushu. 2 weeks later I started a colony of dubia roaches to feed them. Last week I got my first snake, a 2 month old normal ball python yet to be named. As you can see, I've jumped in head first into this new, incredibly satisfying hobby. I can't keep myself from researching about them on the internet. I've been looking for boaphile type enclosures which brought me to this forum (through craigslist). So far it has been fairly helpful and I really look forward to sharing with local herpers.
Thanks for reading!

Christopher

Thanks all! Yes, they are QUITE the addiction. And yes the roaches are on top! Out of reach of curious 7 year olds. I have changed the set-up a bit since that was taken and I'm almost to where I really like them when suddenly I have the urge for a more sleek looking format. Hence the boaphile type cage search. I'm already over the top screen aquariums. What a pain.

I'm sure there is some useful advice somewhere in you! You were the guy looking for roaches right?

No problem! These things breed like... well, roaches.

Nice looking set up Christopher (Chris?)! I can't tell from the pic but you should place a heating pad under the Dubia enclosure if you want them to breed regularly (should be about 90F).

Thanks Brian! I have an 18gal bin within a 22gal bin to allow for insulation. My heat pad and blankets or down between the bins. It usually runs between 86-90.

I appreciate it Nick. So far, no mishaps. She is not even aware we have them. Ha!

Thought I'd add these. And by the way, came up with a name for snakey last night. Snakey is what fiance calls him...until now.

Introducing...

Hahah, yeah, we've been using "snakey" a lot. (Is "snakey time" a dana carvey reference?) The spider is on the 2x4 in the dragon pic.

I dont know if it is a dana carvey reference? We really randomly started using snakey time... and if we have steak for dinner then its "steaky time" and if I like something its "mommy likey" ??? IDK its weird.

My wife knows but for the benefit of family and any guests, I've taken to calling them "Tropical Beetles." They look different enough from the German (I think that's the pest one) roach that no one without an interest in herps really knows their roaches from looking.

That's not a bad idea Brian.

I thought "snakey time" might have been a reference to "nakey time" from Dana's standup.
