Question about dubia Empty
PostSubject: Question about dubia   Question about dubia EmptyTue Nov 15, 2011 11:20 pm

I have a small little colony and I have been using bounty-sized paper towel rolls instead of egg crate. Every time I pick a tube up, all the dry poop falls out. The tub never stinks and the tubes stay pretty much clean. My question is, how often should I change out these tubes or egg crate? Can they make it a couple months or do they start to get yucky or unsafe for the roaches? I see something like this being easily over looked by how much cleaner they are. Thanks

Once every few months is not only fine but is advisable. As long as the poop is dry and there's nothing making it moldy then it is better for the dubias to leave it in. The babies actually require it to thrive according to the large breeder I got mine from. So even when doing a complete cleaning, you should still leave a tiny layer in for them to burrow in.

It's kind of counter intuitive and goes against the care of every other animal I've kept but I guess in the end... they're roaches Wink .

Do both males and females grow wings when they mature? I have just started feeding these guys to my skinks a couple of months ago. Some love them. Some won't have anything to do with them, but I've always wondered about the wings.
