do i need a thermostat for my rack and which do you think is best heat tape or heat cable.

They come in two forms, proportional and on/off. I use both, the proportional is my main thermostat and the on/off is a backup. Here is a link to some very good thermostats. The VE100 is on/off and the VE200 is proportional.

I've always preferred flexwatt and personally use herpstats for everything aside from feeders.

Iam a cabe guy, I've myself have had tape burn holes in cage. I know Joe and two others have had the same problem. That said I do still use it in my inabators. And I agree with Don on the thermostats.

heat tape and heat cables both do a fine job. I think it all depends on how you have your stuff set up. Vision Racks come with cables, and in my case heat tape is just easier to install and can be cut to individual length. But when it comes to effectivity, both are doing their job just fine...
And definitely, the VE's are awesome. I have some of them and actually never really had to try out others because my Thermostats always worked precisely.
