Hornworm Breeding? Empty
PostSubject: Hornworm Breeding?   Hornworm Breeding? EmptyFri Apr 13, 2012 10:06 am

So I think I've decided to give hornworm breeding a shot. I've read a lot of different caresheets and how to sites and feel reasonably confident about it. However, it does seem more difficult than many other feeders so does anyone have any tips that may not be apparent in the caresheets?

I've also read it's much easier and ultimately cheaper to just buy the hornworm's food online rather than make it yourself, any thoughts?

Keep us up to date. I'd love to do this, but it always looked so difficult.

Definitely will. I'm not looking forward to it but I really need to find something to fill the gaping hole my dubia colony left. I still can't really believe that I'm that allergic to an invert scratch

Keep us updated on how it goes if you do start it up. I'd love to learn how to breed these guys since I want to eventually start a small feeder business. I've heard hornworms and silkworms can be bred essentially the same way and can eat the same food.

I thought about doing this too, I've had success with breeding lots of other feeders but this looked like it would take up too much space and time so I decided not too. This is the site where I got a lot of good info- www.manducaproject.com

That's a good site. I have found this one also:

I've actually decided to hold off for now but will probably start trying this winter.
