Well I've decided to make the plunge and head to Columbia Repticon after all. I'm going to book my table today or tomorrow. I have a cousin to stay with in Columbia, so it's convenient. I'm looking forward to it, but I'm going to have to work my butt off to get enough art to fill my 8 foot table. I did so easily last summer but I sold a lot of stuff since then. Still, a challenge is good! I'm in for a lot of late nights squinting over the woodburner. Here are some photos from my last show.
Anyone else planning on attending? I know, I know, it's a long drive. Don't expect to see any of you there, but what's AWESOME about Columbia is they have "hots" and other exotics that are illegal in most states. Below are some examples from Columbia in March 2011 (the one I went to before the show that I vended)...

I've never been to Hamburg, but it sounds fun.

I have been once. The selection of animals is actually very similar to what is found in Colombia (crocs, venomous, baby turtles, etc) but based on my one visit there was probably just a little more variety in Pennsylvania. I enjoy the Colombia show however and it is almost a straight shot for me down I 77. The drive is also at least an hour shorter as well. Anyway, I will probably change my mind a half dozen times between now and then:)

Whats the date? I usually like to go because my brother is stationed down there and it's an awesome show.

Lol. Other people will need the link. I basically plan on going to any columbia or charlotte show since I have family in those places. When it's closer to time, if you know you're going, we can exchange #'s so we're sure to say hi!

At shows it's almost impossible to pay attention to all of the tshirts, but I could try. Hahaha.

your art work is quite impressive!!! I might have to look into it more one day when I have the time too!! Very nice. Good luck with sales as well.
Chip, both shows are good, but I would have to side with Hamburg?!?

Thanks, Doc. I'll probably post stuff for local sale after the show. I'm also up for commissions, and I can do oil paintings! Got to add more to the site.

I tend to agree but this is based on only one Hamburg trip. Again any show can be either really good or not so great depending on one's particular interests and so forth so I suppose that it is all relative anyway. I have been to quite a few Colombia shows over the years and only remember regretting the drive to one. There have also been some really good ones that have reminded me of a somewhat smaller Daytona. I remember one about nine years ago when one vendor had tons of neat vivarium plants and another had a bunch of freshwater shrimp and exotic crayfish (this was before the current US shrimp craze). That trip was a real treat. I kind of get the impression that Hamburg is more intense because it is only for one day. I also saw at least one illegal species there...not that this makes a show more desirable by any means but it was interesting.

I thought your comics were good, but your other work is great. I love your boxes with the snakes in them, the one with egg hatching in super. The dart frogs to cool. Iam going to have to go to a show to get a snake box.

I do plan to vend some of the small virginia shows. Just been working on making enough stock first. I am almost finished with two oil paintings of toads. It doesn't sound exciting but I think they are very pretty! I'll start a thread on art somewhere soon. Lol.
