| Pets First in Richmond is no longer Pets first and not sure if they are considered exotic vets, also Lakeside Vet, I didn't think they were exotic vets either, even if they want to claim it or not, I do not think they are true "exotic vets" just from word of mouth. Never been there and have heard bad reviews about them | |

| Richmond one needs changed. It is actually Dr. Gottschalk and the address is 3430 Lauderdale. Phone number is correct.
Any one use him? I've got to take a bearded dragon in.

They see some exotics, I cant attest to quality of service or pricing but figured could add to list.

| For Richmond:
Lakeside Animal Hospital 5206 Lakeside Ave Henrico, Va 23228
Dr. Anna L. Barnes
My Experience:
While there are two vets there that work with exotics, I much prefer Dr. Barnes. She was very helpful. I've taken two snakes into this vet and I was very pleased. In the end my spinner male was euthanized but Dr. Barnes did everything she could to save him. Dr. Gonzalez is nice but when I brought my boa in for an RI, she asked when the snake last ate. I told her it missed one meal (obviously because she's sick) and she immediately jumped to wanting to do x-rays and such to search for a blockage. I flat out refused, knowing full well the snake did not have a blockage. She also repeatedly tried to convince me to feed my snakes outside of their enclosures "to minimize the risk of them associating my hand for food." Again, I refused. I much prefer working with Dr. Barnes as she is not pushy and genuinely wants to help. When she could not find what was killing my spinner, instead of doing what some vets do and just throw up your hands and say "that's all I can do. Do you you want to euthanize?", she went and spoke with a vet in DC and gave me all of his information. She was putting my snake before business and I absolutely love that.

| Interesting, I used to do computer work for LAH, and I didn't think they did reptiles. | |

| Mostly the exotics they deal with are small animals and birds but they do reptiles as well. | |

| Sigh, just had two BP's pop with RI's this past week. The first one went to SEAVS in Fairfax, and I was thrilled with the quality of care - but less than thrilled with the commute (I-81 south from WV to I-66 into northern VA). I asked around and found these folks in Purcellville, VA when the second one started wheezing - she was just above the first in the rack, go figure. Fortunately the rest seem to be fine so far. Blue Ridge Veterinary Associates 120 East Cornwell Lane Purcellville, Virginia 20132 United States Phone : (540)338-7387 Fax : (540)338-6641 http://www.blueridgevets.com/It's not advertised on their web site, but they do see exotics, including birds and reptiles. Unlike SEAVS they will treat hot snakes as well, and if you are a regular customer and have a larger snake like a retic or burm they will try to accomodate you, either with an appointment during a time when they're not busy, or an in-home visit if you're not far away (obviously they would charge for a house call). They're also the vet for Loudoun County animal control. Office hours from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week, and available for emergencies 24/7. As a comparison they gave us the same level of attention and course of treatment for both snakes (Baytril), but the bill was about $25 less at Blue Ridge even without saving on gas and commuting time. Plus, with regular office hours to 11 p.m. I don't have to take time off my day job for a trip to the vet.

| Sorry folks, but the rules are that reviews of company's, business and individuals are not allowed. Please use FaunaClassifieds.com to review such individuals. It's a national site that verifies the identity of the poster. | |

| Nick, Dr.Ruth Anne McQueen, of Midway Veterinary Hospital in Chesapeake, passed away some months ago in an auto accident. Don't know if the new owner of the practice does reptiles or not. | |
