Mice Empty
PostSubject: Mice   Mice EmptySun Apr 20, 2014 6:48 pm

Hi there everybody. I am going to be building a mouse rack soon and was wondering what size water bottles I should use. Does anybody know any good brands that are on amazon or another place where I could by around 10 at a time? I am not sure what size they should be because some 16 oz water bottles from Lixit (the ones I use for my rats) seem to have to big of a tip where the water comes out that I dont think the mice will be able to get the water. Can someone help? And what size mesh should I use for breeder mice and mice that I am raising up?

Why not try a gravity fed system? Granted mice dont drink quite as much as rats but price of bottles compared to gravity fed Id go with gravity.

I will look at some videos on how to make one. But the thing that I wonder about is that I dont think I will be able to have 2 nipples in each bin. I am thinking of having 2 males to 6 females in one small concrete bin form lowes and I dont think that all of the mice will have a chance to get water with only one nipple thing in a bin. What do you think?

I dont mess with mice much anymore but i had colonies of 10+ in the larger tubs and they did fine off of one. If you wanted to put in two you could always put in a T-fitting to have a second. Most of the stuff for it is fairly plug and play being snap together

All you need:

5+ gallon bucket

Ok thanks. And what size wire mesh did you have for your mice?

1/4" is fine. One water nipple is enough too. That would give each mouse three hours of drinking time a day which is far more than they would use.
