Just saw this site on Craigs List and figured I'd give it a go!

I've been "into" herps since Junior High School (shows how old I am, since they call them Middle Schools now-a-days) when I talked my folks into letting me get some newts for a 7th grade science project: Do Newts Have Reflexes? (no newts were harmed during the failing of that assignment!) Newts led to all kinds of other critters when I was younger from Green Anoles, Iguanas - Green and Spiny, Curly-tails, Bibron's geckos, Knight Anoles (my favorite all time lizards), Red-eared Sliders, Spotted turtles, Speckled Kingsnake, Reggie the Ball Python, basilisks, etc. etc. etc.

I was fortunate enough that my parents supported my herp (and fish) hobbies and I spent so much time at the local pet shop (Pets-n-Things at Southern Shopping Center in Norfolk) that I started working there on Saturdays as soon as I was old enough to get a work permit. I haven't been back there in a couple of years, but I think they're still up and running. Anyway, learned a ton all through high school (turned into a regular part-time job most days after school) and got to take care of tons of different types of terrarium and aquarium occupants.

After high school and a brief stint at ODU I enlisted in the USAF and gave all the critter stuff a break. Once out of the military I jumped back in though. Now, some 20 years later, I've currently got 1.2.1 Knight Anoles (two of which I hatched), Indy the Leopard Tortoise (picked him up at Glades Herp this year on July 5th - get it, Indy?) and my son's - yeah right - Red Eyed Tree Frog and two Fire-bellied Toads, as well as a couple of marine aquariums. Speaking of Glades Herp...that place is awesome and the "Swamp Brothers" are great guys in person - we had a blast there.

Anyway, look forward to good discussions and maybe next Spring some buyers for some Knight Anole babies!

Chuck

I think they used to have a couple sharks too a long time ago! I used to go to the one on 21st Street also but it was much smaller.

Thanks for all the replies! Yeah, I miss good ol' Pets-n-Things...I'll have to take a road trip sometime to check out their new location on Tidewater Drive.

I love Knight Anoles! I don't know much about them but they are so cool looking. I have seen some at Animal Jungle.
