Next Show? MANASSAS DEC 10, 2011

I think the next show is in Manassas, Va on December 10th, 2011. I think I have that day off from work so I might go. Anyone else?

We probably will not go to that one. It is too close to Christmas and we have to save save save

I might try this one. That's right after my bro's birthday so I might take him.

Maybe this time I'll actually be able to buy a snake!

how far away is it from norfolk. still dont know the state very well yet

It's in Northern Va so probably 2-2.5 hours.

More like 3-3.5 depending on traffic We went last year (it was our first show) and we liked it. Only purchased from Outback at that show.

Just too close to Christmas for us and we need another rack before we even think of buying anything else.

is it a big show? I have been wondering if that show is worth driving that far for. What type of vendors are there?

I've been to it twice before. If I'm not mistaken, its larger than the Richmond show but not by much. They've had some pretty nice animals there before. I plan on being there.

We went to Manassas this time last year. Its a bit bigger than the Richmond show but not by a whole lot. We got our rack, our pastel and a normal for a friend at the show. It was a nice show though. If you haven't been to a show before it is a good one to go in the state

I'd love to go but I am going to be totally broke because of Christmas.

Yeah from this area to there, it is a good decent drive and depending on traffic can be longer than expected... I guess it really just depends on if you want to drive all the way there.. It's north of Fredericksburg for those coming from the Hampton Roads area.

I usually vend at every manassas show. Its bigger than richmond but only by a little bit. I still think its a good show, mainly because its about 5 minutes from my house.

It usually takes me about 2.5 hours to drive from manassas down to norfolk/va beach. Deinitely worth the drive if you plan on buying something... If you just want to look, well its up to you if you want to drive that far

I will be there but not sure if we will have as many tables as usual... We have two big shows (white plains and hamburg) right before the manassas show and we usually dont like putting all that stress of back to back shows on the animals... So expect a smaller setup than usual. Either way ill be there, say hi to the guy in the black outback reptiles shirt and the camouflage hat.

So....white plains and hamburg get special treatment???

Yup, they are both about ten times the size of the manassas show

I won't be going to this show. Trying to save as much money as possible and the drive up there and admission is just not worth it if I'm not going to buy anything there. Hope you all have fun, and someone bring back some pictures.

Unfortunately I'm in the same boat with Christmas. Too much money is going out to gifts and travel to make a trip up there reasonable. I wish though

This is my first show and was wondering what type of monetary funds these shows accept?

Vendors may accept plastic, rarely checks, but cash is greatly preferred and will usually give you a little extra negotiating room. I have not been to many reptile shows but this has been the case for every gun show I've attended.

Cash is always preferred and very few vendors have the option of credit cards and most that do usually take visa and mastercard because discover and american express have higher fees. checks are pretty much a no... and if the person has internet access at the show and you have paypal they may be willing to accept that... but everyone we visit usually prefers cash (and Brian was right, it does give extra negotiating room).

We will probably not attend.. Christmas is the issue and its an event at our daughter's school "breakfast with Santa" so by the time we leave after that it'd be way too late to make that drive.

We accept cash or credit... everything except discover i think. I know some of the other major companies have credit card machines too. Either way there is an ATM by the door

And cash in hand is always best, although please don't try to negotiate somebody down on a $30 animal because you have a wad of $1 bills lol.

So I went to my first show today.....seen alot of snakes of few lizards and a few spiders......
Outback seemed to have the best selection.....everything seemed cold and lazy but that was probably due to the outside weather.
Ready for the next bigger better show!!

the next bigger shows are not in VA. Hamburg or Myrtle Beach I think... maybe Repticon in Baltimore? But we have never been to repticon. Manassas is the biggest in VA I believe. And Any show That Outback vends they usually have the largest set up. They had pretty much a whole wall at Hamburg when we went.

Edit: I was a little upset about the show but don't want to give the wrong impression.

I that case, I'm glad I went to ny city instead of the show. I live in Newport news, so it would have been pretty upsetting to drive that far for nothing.....

Thank god I didn't go either I woulda been pissed but we should get together to carpool down to hamburg or something like that or reptilian in b more

I'd like to try the Hamburg one. I'll try to get my brother on board with going to but he swears he won't go to another. It was such a disappointment to see him so disappointed.

I'm really hoping that they move the Daytona expo to Myrtle Beach as mentioned in another thread. That one would definitely be worth driving too!

Hamburg is AMAZING and I think you guys will LOVE it...

Manassas was our first show - from there we picked up a used snake rack, heat tape, t-stat, pastel female and a normal male for a friend. I enjoyed it but it isn't really worth the drive to me anymore because alot of the same stuff is at other shows or Pet Paradise.

Hamburg was our second show... we drove up and back the SAME day, and it was a great show. Bought a rack and a scale there.

Myrtle Beach was a good show (we went to the first one ever in July). Drove there adn back the same day... bought nothing but enjoyed it. There were demos being done by the Venom 911 people from Animal Planet... they did venom extraction.. and they had a magician for the kids and such...

Tinley was the best show we have been to. There was SOOOOO much going on there. The only issue with the shows that are far away is the driving/gas and if you stya in a hotel or not. Tinley we HAD to stay over night just because it was soo far. But I found it more cost effective to rent a car as opposed to driving my own due to wear & tear and all gas mileage since their cars are newer.

Anyway I am sorry you had a poor experience Nick. The smaller shows like that generally are about a 30 minute walk through and you have seen everything. I really recommend Hamburg or Myrtle Beach if you cant make it to Tinley. All shows of course have their admission fee. I think the fee goes to pay for the rental of the space used? But I know at Tinley I think we paid $15 and got in the show for both days as long as we had our wrist bands the next day.

Alot of times we go to these shows just because we have nothing better to do but from experience we will rent a car if it requires longer than 3 hours driving.

Nick I'm down with carpooling to hamburg lemme know a date and we can make it happen
