| We get a lot of spiders both in and around our apartment. Not too long ago, I was walking out of my front door and spotted this beautiful spider hanging out on the cement. Anyone have a clue as to what kind of spider this is? I've never seen one like this before. | |

Either that or a Wolf Spider.

| He was pretty big too. I'd love to find out what species. I've thought about keeping tarantulas as pets once I have my own facility (husband refuses to let me have one in the house) but I kind of like spiders like this more. | |

| Yup, Wolf Spider. I use to feed the wild ones flies when I was younger. They use to run out, grab them and zoom back in their hole.

| Dale (aka Grymm) gives all wolf spiders a kind of diplomatic immunity at his house. It doesn't matter how big those suckers are, he will leap off the couch and defend them with his life. We have one that's lived above the front door for six months now. | |

| My guess would be a Carolina Wolf Spider (Lycosa carolinensis). | |

| Liz, I do the same, they eat all the stuff I don't want around. We see tons of them when we are working outside and I make my husband not run over them with riding mower! He hates spiders so its a difficult task | |

| Aren't wolf spiders the ones that carry their live young on their backs? | |

I don't see creepy. I see a magnificent animal. Beautiful in both design and function. | |
