Identify this tortoise! Empty
PostSubject: Identify this tortoise!   Identify this tortoise! EmptyTue Dec 27, 2011 7:48 pm

I have a small, mostly grey/brown tortoise that I would love for someone help to identify. I believe he is a few years old, and the previous owner did not know what type he is either. Please take a look at the pictures below and see if you can help me identify him!!

First Picture- Plastron
Photobucket
Second Picture-Carapace/shell
Photobucket
Third Picture- hand Comparison for size
Photobucket

Some people say he is a sort of box turtle(which is my best prediction so far from research, but I couldnt find anything specific)
It'd be great if you could help! Smile
If the Pictures dont show up please refer to these links to view them!(photobucket)

I can see them. Not sure of the specimen but there's a good chance someone will know if it's local Very Happy

They didn't show up for me, but o-well, the photobucket pics worked. It looks like a juvenile Eastern Box turtle to me, but I'm far from an expert. It has ridges in the top and bottom and sometimes they vary in color.

I don't know how reliable this is, but you may be able to narrow it down by answering more of the questions.

Thanks for the link! It looks really helpful!
And so far a juvenile Eastern Box Turtle looks like the closest match, but I am told he is very old and I'm not sure if they(previous owner) purchased him or caught him! scratch I really do appreciate your help! Thanks!

Thanks! I visit that website all of the time, especially when I'm studying the specimens outside that I cant identify at the top of my head. It's been so helpful! I never thought of using the website to see what type he was...probably a good idea. Smile I'm assuming he's caught...but I'm not sure if he was purchased either! 😕
