Hey guys, I'm looking into getting a tortoise...I've wanted one for a ehile but didn't realize their were so many smaller ones. I'm stuck between a marginated and a greek tortoise...do any of you guys have experience with either and do you preffer one to the other?

If you're looking for small I would get a greek. Marginatas get bigger than the greeks. Just my opinion though. I had a nice herd of greeks and they are very personable. I have a friend that has both and breeds both. He has said in the past that they are both easy to keep and do well both inside and outside. Being that you live in VA, they will do very well outside with the proper outside set up.

That's good to know. I have NO yard though, and the dogs get what square foot of yard I do have lol...so he/she would be an inside tortoise. I like how the marginated tortoises look as babies better than the greeks, but I don't really like that skirted look they get when they get older. I really like the pancake ones- but those aren't in my price range ha

If there is no room to roam, I would look at something else personally. I have kept greeks, sulcattas, and leopards. All tortoises like to roam and graze, even pancakes like to graze.
If you're interested in the four-footed shelled reptiles and don't have yard space, I would get a water turtle. Just my opinion though.

I mean I have yard space for him/her to roam around in...just not a yard for it to live outside in.

Cool. Hermans would be the best bet. They stay small.
