Hampton Roads Tunnel Trolls

Who here takes the Downtown Tunnel or the Midtown tunnel in Hampton Roads everyday? I've heard rumors of tolls being placed in the tunnel and come to find out it's true. The article below is a little old, but most people I have spoke to have not heard of this change. Figured I would put the word out.

$1.84 during peak, $1.59 off peak hours each way. Looks like going to work is going to cost me an extra $85 a month

wow yea i take the down town tunnel to portsmouth navel base every day. this sucks. gonna slow things down a lot too! this sucks

Yup, I work in downtown Portsmouth. Do you work at the hospital or by the shipyard?

It doesn't affect me but traffics already a pain no matter where you go so it isn't really a good idea to congest it even more. Maybe they will have ezpass? And you can go thru that lane and avoid the people that have to pay cash? And I don't know about you guys but I pretty much never have cash on me no matter what the amount is, I spend cash if I have it..

Yeah it will be EZ pass with no pay windows. They will take pictures of your license plate and send you the bill if you don't have an EZ pass.

They say this will "help reduce traffic" by forcing people to take alternate routes. One way, my drive to work is currently 8.5 miles. The next closest alternate route is 30.5 miles ONE WAY LOL

That is insane and it will only reduce traffic at the tunnels then but congest it everywhere else for the people that avoid the toll....

You are so right Nick... I hate that kinda crap. Lucky for me my only interstate traveling other than for shows is to and from work which is 264 from Military to Lynnhaven which is not really congested with traffic but still... that is soooo ridiculous.
