Oh my gosh.

I went to mist my geckos and discovered that one of my breeding males (in with a female) had a prolapsed hemipene. It was definitely prolapsed. I have seen hemipenes, well, quite a few times considering that I breed geckos. This one had come all the way out and would not go back in. He continued licking and biting at it. I quickly moved him to a sanitary tub with wet paper towels and heavily misted him.

Did some research, checking on him throughout, and after an hour the hemipene returned to its normal position.

I am extremely relieved. Correction often involves amputation and costs upwards of 300 dollars, assuming one can even find a vet to do it!

All you have to do with a prolapsed hemipene is whisper in their ear that if they don't put it away the doctor will cut it off. Works with males of any species.

My first experience with anything of that nature. Luckily none of my geckos have had to pay the vet a visit...thus far. Unfortunately in any hobby it is inevitable.
