Infrared Thermometer Recommendations? Empty
PostSubject: Infrared Thermometer Recommendations?   Infrared Thermometer Recommendations? EmptyMon May 06, 2013 4:47 pm

So my old Ryobi Infrared is reading 2 degrees higher than two regular probe thermometers and three RBI thermostats. I think it might be time to retire it. Anybody have any recommendations?

I was looking at the PE-2 from RBI.

There's also the step up model

I don't like that the PE-2 has a 1.8 degree error of margin but I can't find the error of margin for the step up model. No point in upgrading if they have the same for a 6'' reading distance. Anybody use either of these?

I've only used the Harbor Frieght one for $20-25. I can't remember the accuracy variance, but it has been less than one degree from my herpstats everytime I test it. If you can catch one of their coupons, it makes a great back up and they are in stock whenever I go there.

I have been interested in the RBI guns and planned on getting one in the future. I dropped my HF gun and it did break. It's only a cosmetic issue that involves some reassembly when changing the battery Smile It would be nice to have lighter and/or rugged one with the hardwood floors in the snake room.

Here's a post I made about the centech gun. I guess I paid $29 but I've seen it for less lately.

Thanks for the responses.

I swore never to buy another Craftsman power tool after my drill. I think the hand tools are still pretty solid though.

Thanks for the link to the centech. That's a pretty good price.

I heard back from Rich at RBI and it sounds like the thermostats (Helix, VE, etc) are more accurate than the IR tempguns. I mistakenly had assumed the opposite. Still going to upgrade the temp gun though, 2 degrees is still just too high of a variance.

I use the craftsman one same one I use to check temp's on engine's ( have two actually )
There very reliable and IMO one of the best with being almost dead accurate
( personally I think it's because they where designed to check the operating temperature's of car engine's and their components )

I feel you with there power tools being garbage hand tools lifetime warranty can't go wrong LoL

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll have to regive Craftsman another look then and the 420l does seem pretty tempting.
