| She hatched on July 3rd, shed on the 11th. The first time I offered food was on the 15th, a f/t rat pup. She refused, so I tried live a few days later. She wanted nothing to do with it. Then just now I tried assist-feeding another rat pup. She won't close her mouth on it or coil; just tries to flail around and fling it out of her mouth. Live, frozen, in her tank, in a tub, rat left in with her overnight, brained, it doesn't matter; she just doesn't seem interested.
The warm side of the tank is at 89 and the cool side at 79. Humidity is at 50%. I have her on paper towels in a 10g tank. Haven't been handling her because I just want her to take a meal! She was at 64g, now she's down to 60. She's still lively and drinks fine.
Any ideas? | |

| A rat pup is too big for that small of a baby. My first feedings are always with rat pinkies or mouse hoppers. If her first shed was on the 11th, it is not unusual for them to go a few weeks before they eat.
Now that you've attempted to assist feed, you probably have her spooked. Leave her completely alone for a week. Keep her in an area with no traffic. Try to feed her a live mouse hopper after that week has passed.

| A hopper mouse might be a better option. They move around a bit more and in my experience are a little more attractive to a hatchling ball python. | |

| I was kind of afraid to give them one of those, I didn't want my baby getting bitten or injured from the mouse. | |

| The hoppers don't really bite. At least I have never had an issue with them trying to. | |

| I've had the hopper mice in there for a few hours now and, although the YB female showed interest at first, she didn't strike, and her sister doesn't seem to be interested either... | |

| I think you should have waited longer to attempt another feed. Are they secluded away from anything that could stress them out in between you trying to feed them? | |

| Put the YB baby in a smaller container with some shredded newspaper and a mouse and she ate today!
The other one still seems afraid of the hoppers and will just curl in a ball and hide if it gets close to her...

| Glad that worked for you. Give the other time. Patience is the greatest trait needed in keeping ball pythons. | |
