| I know there's been conversations about this before, but what do you guys think of this specific thermostat? | |

| I have that exact thermostat in my reptile room to keep my oil filled heater from becoming too hot. It works well and has been reliable for me. I don't use it on my reptile racks. | |

| So you don't recommend this for racks? | |

| I prefer the proportional thermostats for the racks, like the VE200. I would use the Ranco as either a backup or for a floor heater for the room. I guess you could use it, but I don't think it would be as precise as a proportional thermostat in maintaining a constant temperature. The Ranco is designed to be used more so for higher voltage applications. If cost is an issue, then I'd look at the VE-100. It does the same thing and is easier to set.

Yeah I saw that too...pricey... though...looking for something cheaper. I'm not breeding at the moment so I don't need anything too extremely precise.

I believe the HerpStat 2 is a dual zone T-Stat. I'm currently using the VE-200 but I might be switching over to the HerpStat 1 due to the dimming (Herpstat) versus pulse control (VE). In agreement with Don, I would highly recommend the VE-100 over the Ranco for racks. My Ranco stopped working properly after a few days.

| If both racks are identical, you can use a VE100. Call Rich at Reptile Basics. He is great to work with and can answer any question. | |

| I used it on my first rack and didn't have many problems. It was loud when it cycled and the probe is large so it can get knocked off easier if its near a tub.
It works even better on my incubator and I never hear it cycle anymore.
For the price on RB's, I think it would be worth the extra $ for the upgrade, however, I found my Ranco new for $40 on eBay and wired it myself.
I use a herpstat 2 on my enclosures and will eventually switch everything over to herpstats.
