Need some help

ok, so recently i purchased a snake as a yellowbelly and it isnt. it definitely has something else in it... could a yb be mistaken for a spector if it came from a superstripe clutch? im going to try to trace back the family line to see the mother and the sire of it. i will also try to get pics posted soon. is there any way to tell a spector for sure??????

Its possible. I'm very new to this morph and do not own any myself. After looking through some pictures online it is quite possible they could have been confused. The look of a specter is very similar to a yellow belly in a few ways. The belly markings can be similar and the color can be similar. Specters are one of those morphs that can be very subtle. I would contact the person you purchased him through and get their opinion.

You could also post a picture here and let some of the breeders take a look.

i will post pics today hopefully. i texted justin kobylka and he said it looked like a spector to him but you cant be sure without knowing the parents of it.

Let me know if this works. there should be like 22 pics. im hoping its a spector. pay attention mainly to the odd patterning on its back. it has lines with "doughnuts" attached to them and solid lines with holes in the middle. i will post another link to an actualy specter and tell me what you guys think!

This is an actual specter. similar markings and color. mine (earlier post) was purchased as a yellowbelly but its obvious now that its not a yellowbelly...

Not really. It only shows a very small picture. If I try to zoom in, it just gets pixelated. If you want, send me the picture in an email and I'll post it up.

the problem, is my friend emailed me the pics of our snake and i think they are on that skydrive thinggyy so when you try to click it, its basically directing you to the website rather than the actual pic. i'll forward you his message though so you can see. that worked when i forwarded it to justin koblyka

one way i can prove it as a yellowbelly or a specter is breeding it to a yb and see if an ivory or a superstrioe comes out

thanks, nice yeah. my main thing with this girl is that her markings are very different from a normal and she was purchased as a yellow belly but its now obvious that shes not.

Why is it obvious she is not a Yellowbelly? I was looking at the pictures you sent and she has the belly markings for one. I will post up more pictures later.

her belly doesnt have the speckles like a yb should. also, her head doesn't have that "light hughe" that yb's have. im just almost positive she's not yb, also i've had 3 reputable breeders say she isnt

Yellowbellies have a speckled pattern along their sides where the side meets the belly. Looking at the pictures, your girl seems to have that. I'm not sure what other speckling you mean? She looks like a yellow belly to me.

if you go on google and type in yellow belly stomach, you'll notice that the speckles run down the length of the side. verrry peppered looking. my girl tends to have some but not necessarily as much as other yb's. if i cant find out what parents she came from then i will just get a yb male to put with her and hope for superstripes. if not, ivory's shes definitely not a normal though right?

Definitely does not look like a normal. I'd say contact the breeder or whoever you got her from and try to find out what the parents were. More than likely she is a yellowbelly. I'll take a closer look at her belly when I get the chance to view the pics (I'm at work.) but I'd put my money on her being a yellowbelly.

Now looking at the belly a little closer the sides are not quite like a yellow belly. It could be a low quality one, but I'm not sure. I would speak with the previous owner and find out what the pairing was.

thats what im going to try to do. also, there aren't very many visual hets. the only real het markers are on pieds mainly and even then, thats not always true.

Good news, it's not a yellow belly IMO.

Bad news, there are many normals with that exact belly. This would not stop me from breeding her though and trying to prove it out. I would breed her with a yellow belly and something from the blue-eyed complex.
