| There seems to be a bug in the software for iPads. When PMing, it crashes the Safari Web Browser. I've had one other iPad user report this issue to me when they were sending me a PM. It does not happen when replying to posts, only to PMs. Also, it does not happen on my Mac, only the iPad. Just wanted to bring that up, in case there was a software bug reporting tool. | |

| I'll check into it. I use safari on my iPhone and I haven't had any issues on that either.
Does the iPad use the cellular format of the forums or regular CPU format? There is an option to switch to "Classic View" at the bottom if it's using the cellular. I know the cellular format is relatively new.

| It uses regular format. Everything works great, except the PMs. | |

| I use an iPad2, not sure what Ryan (ezekiel21) was using, but he reported the same issue to me during some PMs. | |

| Ryan always has issues I've looked and looked today and I can't find anything I'll post a help ticket on forum support tonight. Hopefully it's already an issue they are working on. | |

| Thanks Nick. It is a relatively minor issue, but irritating when trying to communicate. I don't often use a computer in the evenings, preferring to use the iPad. When I have to PM, then I have to log into a computer and PM. It is the only bug I've found.

| How long has it been failing? Does it fail everytime you try to send a PM? Do you have the most recent OS and updates? Does it give you an error code or just doesn't load? Does this happen on any other forums?
I just want to get a few details for the post tonight because I know they will ask me. Thanks.

Thanks. happens EVERY single time i PM unless its a really short one. it seems like if you stay on the message too lond it closes the screen and when you bring it back up you are still on the message screen but everything you typed in is gone. its been failing since i got mine (bout 2 weeks). mine is up to date and it doesnt give any kind of message or warning..... just closes. doesnt happen on fauna.

| I'm going to try to see if the problem is with the built-in Safari browser or the iPad. When I get home tonight, I'll try FireFox and another browser to see if they have issues. But, yes, that seems to be the problem. | |

| I found another link and it looks like it might be related to OS5 as others did not have the problem with OS4.
Are there any other trends, like only when you reply instead of create or when you reply to a pop up notification?

| The only time it happens is when I'm typing in a PM box. It can be a reply or an original PM. I was typing out a new PM to Debbie about Blue Tongue Skinks last night and it kept crashing. So, I don't think it is related to replying or starting a new PM. Funny, how it never happens in a regular posting. | |

| These probably won't help, but it was some suggestions I found for random crahsing.
Hard reset (holding power and home buttons for 10 seconds) and clearing out the cache and cookies.
I would also suggest downloading another browser app and see if the problem is consistent. (I guess this would narrow it down to an OS or Safari issue)
"As said, I'm of the opinion there's an issue with base Safari, which all other iPad browsers use the base libraries of, but other vB forums are much more reliable than AVF. They do crash, but nowhere near as consistently as typing a reply / quick reply or just sitting reading AVF with half a dozen tabs open."

| It's starting to look more and more like it's an OS5 issue and the iPad is plagued with crashing issues after the OS update, well at first. Most seem to be forum related crashes when typing long replies.

| Another tip:
The easiest first way to try to solve ‘unexplained’ or ‘unusual’ problems with the iPad are:-
Force the offending app to close. If you have iOS 4.2 or 4.3 double-press the ‘Home’ button to bring up the multi-task bar at the bottom of the screen. Press *and hold* any icon until they start to ‘jiggle’. Then tap the top left-hand corner of the app that you want to close. It will ‘disappear’ from the list. Don’t panic - you’ve not deleted it, just closed it. Now tap the Home screen and the multi-task bar will disappear. Re-open the iPad’s app and see if the problem has resolved itself. If not, it’s on to possible solution number two!! Restart the iPad. Press *and hold* the Power button. After a couple of seconds a slider control will appear asking you to confirm that you really want to switch the iPad off (this is all you’ll be doing). Slide the control to accept. A rotating white ‘bezel’ will appear in the iPad screen as the iPad powers down (it takes a few seconds, just like it would if you were shutting down your PC). When the screen of the iPad has gone completely blank, press *and hold* the Power button for a couple of seconds until the white Apple logo appears and the iPad starts to power up. This takes several seconds, so be patient. During the power up the automatic screen orientation function is disabled, so don’t panic. A few seconds before the power up is complete, the iPad plays a little ‘jingle’ and then you’re back to the Home screen. Restart the iPad’s app and see if the problem persists. Apple (and Forum members) recommend that you power down your iPad at least once a week, just as you might regularly completely switch off your PC. The normal procedure of just briefly pressing the Power button of the iPad merely puts it to ‘sleep’. Most Forum members have found that one of the two methods I’ve mentioned here cure a whole bunch of unexplained problems and are an easy first step to resolving most anything that happens on the iPad.

| Just sent a PM of some length to Nick using FBBrowser from Mozilla. There were no problems and as far as I can tell it went. So, this looks to me like a Safari issue. | |
