Leopard Gecko with gout?

A friend of mine was working (at a vet clinic) on Saturday and apparently they have a Leopard Gecko they are trying to find a home for because it was left there when the owner didn't want to pay for care. I told them I would take it and find it a home, but it has gout. They are currently treating it and I know it can be caused by MBD and increase in urea crystal formation due to dehydration, but has anyone had any experience with this?
